Cruise Company Reviews: P&O Cruises exotic Cruises
The roots of P&O Cruises can be traced back to 1837, the time when Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company established a passenger and mail service from the United Kingdom to Spain and Portugal. Fame came to the service network and it expanded quickly. Just within 1860s, it was already capable to engulf India, Japan, China, and Australia. Then, the main service of the company was to safely carry mail and passengers. However, vessels were also sent on occasional cruises during the 1840s.

In recent years, P&O cruises have become famous because of Canbrera. And there was a time when this ship was the only P&O Cruises ship that was based in United Kingdom. After a few years, Canbrera served together with Victoria. In 1995, P&O Cruises introduced the big Oriana that weighs 69,000 tons. It is the first modern cruise liner, designed especially for the British clients.

In 2000, Aurora, which weighs 76,000 tons, was inaugurated. The new ship was much larger and more modern than Oriana. In 2003, P&O Cruises was integrated to the Carnival Corporation and the Anglo-American cruise giant, PLC. At the same time, the sister ships Oceana (2000) and Adonia (1998) were transferred to the fleet from Princess Cruises, a Carnival Corporation family. Adonia reverted back to Princess as Sea Princess within 2005 as P&O Cruises launched Arcadia as its biggest ship. The Royal Princess was transferred from Princess in 2005 and it was renamed Artemis. In April 2008, Ventura ship was inaugurated.

The main concern of Ventura is to cater big families. This is specially designed to have all the enjoyment they can give for each member of the family. They have a rock school for the teens, Mr. Bump and Noddy for the tiny tots and a Scalextric Formula One racing track for the in-betweens. The P&O Cruises is still on its way to make a similar ship and launch it in 2010. However, this ship has still no name.
With these many cruise ships, the P&O Cruises now offers different packages for various clients. For example, Arcadia, Oceana, and Ventura are focusing on innovation and are specially made to suit the contemporary taste. These ships are famous for the younger generation and these are also magnets for seasoned cruisers. Meanwhile, Oriana, Aurora, and Artemis will give you a more traditional cruise adventure and experience. Artemis and Arcadia do not allow carrying children, while the rest suits all ages.

Whenever you cruise on Arcadia, Ventura or Oceana, you could choose Freedom Dining where it’s your prerogative to eat when or where you decide. You can also pick Club dining which is a traditional seating system. Club dining is also available in Aurora, Artemis and Oriana. There are two specialty restaurants each for Oceana and Artemis.
In some parts of every year, some ships that are based in Southampton sail to Mediterranean, Northern Europe, and the Atlantic Islands. There are also cruises to the Caribbean as well as the mentioned world voyages. The duration of the cruises that P&O Cruises offers is from two nights to more than 100 nights.
